About the Independence Plaza North Tenants Association
IPNTA
was formed to represent the interests of IPN tenants with the building
managers, Duane Street Management Company. IPNTA was involved in many
efforts to build the community of Tribeca — advocating for the public
schools, building local parks, campaigning to get a supermarket and other
neighborhood services in place.
Mostly recently, IPNTA's biggest priority has
become SAVING OUR HOMES, the most fundamental fight of all.
The affordable housing of IPN is in jeopardy as the current owners, the
Cohn brothers, attempt to sell IPN to mega-real estate developer, Laurence
Gluck. Gluck has already publicly stated that if he takes over, he intends
to leave the Mitchell-Lama program, and raise IPN rents to whatever the
market will bear. If the government allows this to happen, most of us
will be forced out of our homes. The IPNTA Board is working hard to prevent
this. We need your help.
This has been and will continue to be a difficult
battle, one that is costly both in terms of money and toil. The
top-notch professionals who are vital to our cause, such as lawyers and
financial analysts, don’t come cheap, and the day to day business
of reaching out to others that can help us requires vast amounts of time
and energy.
While there are no guarantees, we strongly believe we have a good chance
to win this fight. But we really need ALL our neighbors
to pitch in.
