Join us in honoring Jose and Ramona Torres as
Tribeca Citizens of the Year, on Wednesday, April 14, 2004.
Each year, members of the community are celebrated for their leadership

have been involved with Tribeca Partnership, and Jose has been a voice
for the people through his columns in the New York Post and El Diario-La
Prensa.
We hope you’ll join co-chairs Dennis Rivera, President of 1199
SEIU and Rossana Rosado, CEO/President of La Prensa-El Diario and a prominent
group of writers, actors and activists for this evening of merriment in
the name of affordable housing.

The Mitchell-Lama Conversion Protection Bill, Intro 523, will give
tenants more power to:

timely repairs, building upkeep) and

ALBANY TENANTS LOBBY DAY - Brief Summary
On Tuesday, April 8th, 20 tenants from IPNTA went to Albany to lobby,
network and build coalitions. It was a 12-hour work day for us, of which
6 hours were on a bus. Neil Fabricant, John Lynch, Julie Miles, John R
Scott, and the other tenants were doing their part by going to Albany
— we now need you to do your part.
Contact NYS legislators.
Attend the April 14 DID meeting (Downtown Independent Democrats). It
is important, as many elected officials will be there. Stand up and be
counted.
ALBANY TENANTS LOBBY DAY
It's TIME FOR US TO TAKE A STAND — TUESDAY, APRIL 8th
LET'S SHOW OUR STATE LEGISLATORS THAT WE WILL NOT LOSE OUR HOMES!
- We are lobbing to also extend rent and eviction protections to Mitchell-Lama
developments occupied on or after January 1, 1974.
- Many limited-profit housing companies are exercising their option
to buyout of the Mitchell-Lama program, especially in New York City.
- Tenants in these facilities are then faced with eviction if they
cannot afford the new market rent.
- This is a sunset year where a bill is being passed to extend existing
rent-regulation laws.
- The State Assembly has included Mitchell-Lama developments to come
under Rent Stabilization even if occupied on or after January 1,1974.
GENERAL TENANTS MEETING, February 13, 2003. For a report from this well-attended
meeting, see Tribeca Trib.
